About this lesson
We'll cover four practical techniques: planning your answer directly in the exam screen to avoid wasting time on the whiteboard, identifying what you're actually being asked before you read the scenario, structuring your response with clear headings and subheadings to help the marker, and keeping your introduction brief so you can get straight to your main points. The core principle throughout is that the SCS exam tests both your knowledge and your exam technique. You'll discover why structure matters so much to examiners—it makes your script easier to mark and helps you ensure you've covered all the points you intended to make. By planning on the fly with main headings, subheadings, and supporting examples from the pre-seen and theories, you'll have meaningful content written from the very start, so your answer practically writes itself as you elaborate on your initial framework. The most important recommendation is to practise mock exams under real timing conditions. Our experience marking hundreds of scripts shows that 70 to 80 percent of errors occur in the first attempt, even for knowledgeable students. Getting at least one mock exam marked by an experienced tutor gives you specific feedback on your exam technique, not just your knowledge. Like elite athletes, musicians, and surgeons, world-class accountants become excellent through deliberate practice—theory is the starting point, but doing the work is what builds genuine competence and confidence for exam day.
