About this lesson

The theory of constraints, also known as throughput accounting, helps just-in-time businesses maximise throughput (sales revenue minus direct material costs) whilst minimising inventory build-up and total factory costs. You'll discover the five-step methodology: identify the constraint, exploit it by ranking products, subordinate other activities around it, then break the bottleneck through longer-term improvements and continuous re-evaluation. This approach transforms how you think about production efficiency and profitability in resource-constrained environments.
