About this lesson
Functional currency is the currency of the primary economic environment where the entity operates—typically where it's based and generates cash—and it's what you use to measure and record transactions in your ledgers. Presentation currency is simply the currency in which the financial statements are presented, which can differ from functional currency (for example, in a foreign-owned subsidiary where the parent company operates in a different country). Understanding this distinction is essential for correctly translating and presenting foreign currency transactions and year-end balances in your Financial Reporting exams.
